OH BOY, OH BOY, OH BOY…. This past weekend was something else.
Not only was it my birthday and I got half of the things on my wishlist (books, camera and shure e3c), but I also went to Vegas for DefCon 15
and participated in the aCTF III as "Robots Get Wedgies Too". We got 3rd place in that thing and we loved it, considering we didn’t do much practice/preparation for the thing other than show up in Vegas :). You can see the photos from the trip. It was 4 days of booze, hacking, no sleep and more booze :), not that I am complaining but lets just say that we spent the flight back and the following day doing nothing but sleeping. One thing I am totally disappointed in is my inability (well maybe inability is a bit strong but more… rustyness) to work some of the tools I was trying to use, but at least now I know to not relay on automation tools for SQL Injections and just remember the damn SQL syntax so we don’t spend half the day doing a clicking war against the other teams.
Although aCTF is not as crazy involved as the official Kenshoto CTF, it is still a mind boggling contest. The guys at dc949 did not let us off easy, one of the services involved you recognizing that a bunch of gibberish was a wav file (the header was stripped so you really need to know how wav gibberish looks when "cat"ed) that you need to copy paste and play in order to figure out what to type in order to get the service. So I must definitely give those guys a shout out for putting on a great contest that is not as lame as everyone at DC thinks, it is definitely not all about running nessus and metasploit and clicking random buttons.
After this whole fiasco I am now headed to the beach for a week, which is going to be an awesome ending to the summer.

So yeah…. I am reusing, so sue me. I have not updated in ages but I am gonna in a little bit…. I promise. Oh and as always there is the Uber Category at the bottom. So without further adue here is The List:

These babies are the best money can buy in the world of head phones. This is a 6.1 surround sound system for your ear canal with 3 separate drivers per headphone it is the best and clearest sound you are going to be able to get without splurging for live concert grade headphones.

What can I say about this? It is the best movie trilogy out there and although it does not do the books justice (what movie really ever does that?) it is on my list of top movies of the film industry.

And of course talking about the books… here they are.

Here is a series, get all of them at the same time please. Stephen King’s Dark Tower Series:

Ok so I don’t think I need to say much about this… I want it to have my children that should just about sum it all up.

Ok so I have been slacking like crazy for the past month and half :), but in my defense a lot has happened. My old car broke down on me right after new years so now I am the proud owner of a 2007 Two Door VW Rabbit:

This baby comes LOADED, I am talking: 17" alloy wheels, mp3 player, power everything, ipod hookup. The only gripe I have with it is the miles per gallon 23/30 is not that great, but for the nice ride you get out of that 5 valve 2.5 liter engine with 170 lbs of torque is not that big of a gripe :). The coolest thing though: I am the only owner of a Black 5 Speed Rabbit in the Southeast USA :).
Also, I got my most prized Christmas Wishlist item the BFG 7800GS AGP video card, so now I have everything from Antialiasing to Antistrophic filtering turned to the max and no games (not that I play many) have looked better. One last big thing is that Marshall finally got me on WoW and I am currently playing on Skywall as a Undead Enchanter Mage (all of level 7 :), started playing two nights ago). If you do not want to pay the 15$ a month for WoW I would strongly recommend you get Dungeon Siege II and the expansion Broken World. Its pretty close to the WoW gameplay.

Oh yeah and I am headed to Auburn, Alabama on Friday on a water polo tournament so wish me luck, I am probably gonna post some pictures Monday or Sunday night (if I am not dead tired). But for right now you can check out the pictures from New Years Eve: Photo Album

Ok so here is my Christmas Wishlist so people can stop bugging me about it. I don’t get it… Christmas is not fun if you do not wait until the last minute (read December 22nd) to get people the stuff they want :).
The list does not have a particular order but the first three items on here is what I guess consider as a really want gifts, plus it has an added bonus section that is only for the bravest of souls out there (read people with money). So without further adue here is The List:

These babies are the best money can buy in the world of head phones. This is a 6.1 surround sound system for your ear canal with 3 separate drivers per headphone it is the best and clearest sound you are going to be able to get without splurging for live concert grade headphones.

So this is a nice shirt that I want in order to promote my favourite show out there: Nip/Tuck. If you are getting this please get the Black in Small/Medium (I am going to have to take my measurements in order to tell you better).

Well I have been slowly adding content to my new home :). So here is what I have put up so far:

Water Polo - just a little info on the only sport I am really passionate about

Swimming - a page with my swimming workouts that I use to keep my self in shape in order to be able to play WP.

Working Out - something I like to do… well like to do most of the time anyway :).

And finally I decided that although Flikr was a great service the whole 30$ a year was not worth it. So now I am officially starting up my own photo hosting :). Based on Gallery. So far I am really pleased with it, although I am having a bit of a difficult time getting to customize the code for some of the themes… but thats because I am not really familiar with the code base. Any way:

Ok so here is a list of extensions I use with Firefox. I use this browser exclusively for all my web needs, now most people seem to need a justification for their choices of software so I guess here are mine:

It is Open Source

It is expendable

It is fast in every aspect

If it crashes it does not bring the entire OS to its knees (biggest selling point for me)

So here is a list of extensions that I use with it on a daily bases:

Cingular Minutes Minder Firefox Extension - A small extension thats sole job is to log into my Cingular GSM account and check my SMS/Minute quota for the month so I can make sure that I do not go over my plan’s coverage

Adblock - As the name says this extension allows you to block ads and other content (Flash) from webpages.

dutchblock - A companion extension for Adblock which goes out and downloads the latest blacklists that will block virtually all ads out there.

ErrorZilla - This little gem replaces the default Firefox site not found error page with a new one, allowing you to do a few extra checks of the site: ping, traceroute, whois, along with checking Google Cache, Wayback Machine and Coralize. Overall a really nice extension that lets you see why you can’t get your favorite spots.

Tab Mix Plus - After installing this you will be presented with numerous new options for your tabbed browsing needs. Things like where to locate new tabs after they are opened, if you want to have a multi row tab bar instead of having to scroll through 50 tabs to find what you need, coloring of tabs that are still loading and my personal favorite: alternate location of the close button.

Performancing - This is the most useful of all extensions. It allows you to connect to just about any blogging platform out there and publish content straight out of the browser while whatever you are talking about is sitting infront of you. It allows you integrate pieces of information easily (quotations for example) and makes using your blog a lot more enjoyable overall.

GrApple (Eos) - This is a Theme for Firefox and it is only useful to Mac users since its main goal is to make Firefox integrate nicely (looks wise) with OS X’s Look & Feel. This theme is by far the best one that I have found so far.

Page Saver - This is something I forgot about so I had to add to the end of the list. It is an extension that allows you to take a screenshot of a webpage… no matter how long it is, in one go. So you have a site that spans 3 pages no problem it will take a screenshot of the entire 3 pages for you.

That is it. I hope some of these are going to be as useful to you as they are to me.
